South Africa Safaris

Madikwe Game reserve is a 750 square kilometer game reserve about 3 1/2 hours from Pretoria, South Africa. I visited there on June 15-17, 2007 at Tuningi Lodge, a small lodge that has rooms for only about 12 guests. The staff was very hospitable and friendly and catered to our every need (especially Gavin and Heidi). It definitely is a place to go back to. We saw some awesome sights - wild dog, jackal, lions feeding on zebra, black rhino (couldn't get a shot of the skittish beast), white rhino, and a leopard resting in a tree after feeding on an impala. All I can say is WOW!
Phinda is another great game reserve located 300 km north of Durban, South Africa. This was also one of my favorite game reserves because we also did a tour of the river and I was able to get many interesting bird species - see my Bird Gallery.
