Queenstown-Milford Sound, New Zealand

I visited New Zealand for the first time for 3 weeks in February for business and traveled to Wellington on the North Island, then on to Christchurch on the South Island. I made a side trip over the second weekend to go Queenstown and do a fly-cruise-fly to Milford Sound. Queenstown is a lake and alpine resort area in the Southern Alps on the South Island of New Zealand. It is a very beautiful area with magnificent mountains, lakes and fiords. Queenstown is on Lake Wakatipu and surrounded by the Remarkables mountain range. I traveled to Queenstown and then flew on a small plane in between the mountains to Milford Sound, a fiord off the Tasman Sea. The next day I took a gondola ride up Bob's Peak to get a panoramic view of Lake Wakatipu. I did not get to see it but some of the Lord of the Rings scenes were filmed in nearby Deer Park Heights. Next time. It was quite a scenic trip!
